Luker nearly untouchable in Sweet Water win

Thea Luker delivered one of the most dominant performances of her storied career Friday when she struck out 10 batters and allowed only one hit in a 10-0 rout of Southern Choctaw.

Luker struck out the first four batters she faced and carried a perfect game into the bottom of the fifth where a Lakeisha Bonner single broke up the quest.

By that time, Sweet Water’s bats had already provided plenty of run support. Kora Myers reached on an error in the top of the second and later scored on another error for the 1-0 lead. Lara Little tripled home Sara Irvin in the third for the 2-0 advantage. Kayla Marshall then drove in little with a fly ball and reached on an error herself. Natalie Luker then grounded to first to plate Marshall for the 4-0 lead. Little doubled home Lindsey Davis and Irvin in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. Luker later singled in Little to push it to 7-0.

Elaina Mitchell moved the lead to 8-0 in the top of the fifth when she singled home Mallory Roe. Irvin stroked a leadoff triple in the seventh and scored on a Kamae Retic grounder. After a Little single, Marshall tripled to set the lead at 10-0.

Little finished the day 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Sweet Water is set to face Clarke County Thursday at 5 p.m.
