Longhorns trample Patrician 37-0

IMG_7834BUTLER — Marengo Academy (4-0) dominated from the outset Thursday night in a 37-0 win over rival Patrician.

The Longhorns drove to the Patrician 2 on the game’s opening drive before failing to score. On the Saints’ first play from scrimmage, Hayden Huckabee forced a fumble and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. Huckabee then fired a pass to Cason Cook for a two-point conversion play to put MA up 8-0.

Huckabee continued doing damage in the second quarter when he scored on runs of three yards and 40 yards.

With 36 seconds remaining in the half, MA all but put the game out of reach when Tyler Barkley found Shade Pritchett for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Brant Lewis connected on all three extra point attempts in the second quarter to put MA up 29-0 at halftime.

Marengo got the final score of the contest with 10:09 to play in the fourth when Josh Holifield punched it in from a yard out. Huckabee then found Pritchett for the two-point conversion to leave the game at its final margin.

IMG_7869The Longhorns imposed their will on Patrician for 21 first downs in the contest while allowing only three to the Saints. MA rushed the ball 48 times for 325 yards as compared to 28 yards on 26 carries for the Saints.

The Longhorns amassed 374 yards of total offense and allowed only 26 in the rout.

Huckabee led the offense with 145 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Holifield ran for 78 yards and a score on 14 carries. Sebastian Hale carried the ball seven times for 62 yards.

Carson Huckabee had 10 tackles and two sacks for the Longhorn defense. Hayden Hall and Thomas Etheridge each finished with 10 tackles. Brant Lewis had seven tackles and a sack while Pritchett had six tackles.
