Longhorns score 42 in first quarter against Meadowview

SELMA β€” Marengo Academy (6-0, 3-0) hung 42 points on the board in the first quarter and sat its starters the rest of the way as it rolled to a 58-6 win over Meadowview Friday.

The Longhorns, who tallied all 400 yards of their offense on the ground, opened the scoring when Hayden Huckabee punched it in from a yard out just 30 seconds into the game.

Josh Holifield added an 11-yard touchdown run at the 9:18 mark. Cason Cook picked off a pass and returned it 15 yards for a score with 7:41 to play in the opening frame.

Huckabee scored from 33 yards out with 5:37 to go in the first. Wyatt Hale scored from three yards away with 4:11 to play in the first. Ralph Langley finally sent the Longhorn starters to the bench with a touchdown run from two yards out. Brant Lewis connected on all six extra point kicks in the quarter.

Cameron Peppenhorst scored on a 24-yard run in the third quarter to stretch the lead before Robert Tutt added the two-point conversion run.

Tutt then scored on a five-yard run. Andrew Martin scored on the conversion run to cap the scoring for Longhorns.

Meadowview got its lone touchdown with 12.7 seconds left in the game.

Peppenhorst led the way with 97 yards on the ground for Marengo, which did not punt all night. Weldon Aydelott had 85 yards rushing. Huckabee finished with 84 while Holifield had 47 on just three carries.

William Tutt and Dalton Etheridge each recovered a fumble for the Longhorns.

Marengo is scheduled to host Pickens in a key region game next Friday night.
