Longhorns score 17 in three innings for win over Wilcox

Marengo Academy (3-0) rolled through Wilcox Academy 17-0 Thursday in its second game of the Clarke Prep tournament. In a game that only lasted three innings, the Longhorns jumped all over Wilcox in the second for 12 runs before adding five more in the third.

Davis Petrey was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Brad Collins went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run. Robert Tutt was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.

Weldon Aydelott finished 1 for 2 with two walks and three runs. David Dunn was 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and three runs scored. Cody Cobb scored a run. Cameron Dodd singled and scored. Dalton Daniels scored twice. Hunter Parker was 1 for 1 with a run scored. Austen Day finished 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.

Tutt recorded the win, striking out four over two innings of work. Day followed with two strikeouts in an inning.

The Longhorns picked up their first win in the tournament Tuesday when they overcame a 3-1 deficit to down South Choctaw 5-3. The Longhorns scored one run in the second inning, one in the fourth and three in the fifth for the victory.

Jacob Beck doubled in Aydelott for the Longhorns’ first run of the game. Day drove in Dunn in the fourth to cut it to 3-2.

In the pivotal fifth inning, Brad Collins led off with a double. Three batters later, Dunn tripled in Collins and Aydelott to put MA up 4-3. Beck drove in Dunn on a sac fly for the insurance run to seal it.

Tutt came on in relief to pick up the win while Day recorded the save. Petrey took a no-decision on the mound but struck out nine batters over his four innings of work.
