Linden runs over Greene County

LINDEN — Andro Williams’ team wasted little time putting Greene County away Thursday night, hanging 41 points in the first half en route to a 55-14 win.

“We’ve been preaching about trying to score in all three phases of the game. Tonight was a night that we almost did just that,” Williams said. “I was real pleased with the way we came out tonight. I thought we came out on fire in all three phases of the game.”

Linden (6-2, 3-1) amassed 373 yards on a night that saw it score on each of its first half possessions. The Patriots got a 3-yard touchdown run from Justin Jenkins on their first possession to take an early 7-0 lead.

Only 16 seconds later, Jenkins dove on a loose ball bouncing through the Greene County end zone after an errant snap. The fumble recover gave Linden the 13-0 lead.

With 1:34 left in the opening quarter, Charles Blackmon scored on a 3-yard run before Labrandon Williams punched in the conversion for the 21-0 advantage.

C.J. Robinson went over the top with 10:13 to go in the second when he hit a wide open Dequan Charleston for a 32-yard touchdown strike.

Blackmon then found the end zone twice more on runs of 3 and 39 yards for the 41-0 lead.

Greene County answered on its final possession of the first half when it converted its first three first downs of the night and then saw Jahkil Edwards haul in a 3-yard pass from Denzel Davis to get GCHS on the board. Davis then his Jessie France for the conversion pass to cut it to 41-8.

Williams punched it in from a yard out with 9:39 to go in the third quarter, pushing the Linden advantage to 48-8. Davis struck again with 8:00 left in the third quarter when he found Nicholus Kimbrough for a 40-yard pass.

Isaiah Scott punctuated the scoring on a 1-yard run before adding his own conversion kick.

Blackmon led all rushers with 78 yards on eight carries. Williams added 70 yards on 15 carries.

Linden is set to host Class 5A Dora next Friday night to close out regular season play.

“We feel good about where we’re at right now. We feel like we’re in position to peak. We’ve got a lot of work to do, but we still feel like our team is getting better overall,” Williams said. “We talk about finishing on our terms and we want to try to do that next week.”
