Linden runs over Ellwood

LINDEN — Linden (3-2) got seven rushing touchdowns from five players Thursday night on its way to a 61-6 thrashing of Ellwood Christian.

Charles Blackmon opened the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown run before Cordarius Scruggs added a 22-yard run. The second quarter saw a 4-yard touchdown run from Henry Lee, a 41-yard scoring pass to Davontae Poole and a 36-yard TD pass to Tywan Smith. Ellwood got a 78-yard strike from Marquieth Gullett to Michael Lewis to account for its lone score.

On its other 41 snaps, Ellwood managed only 16 yards of total offense on a night in which the Linden defense held the Eagles to zero yards rushing on 31 rushes.

Scruggs added a 9-yard touchdown run in the third quarter while Blackmon had a 4-yard run. Keishaun Scott scored on a 4-yard run while Steve Edwards polished off the scoring with a 37-yard sprint.

On the PAT following the Edwards score, an Ellwood player took a swipe at the Linden kicker, prompting an ejection and the calling of the game by the officials.

“I was real pleased with our guys the way they handled it the entire game, not just the end of the game, the entire game,” Linden coach Andro Williams said of the way his players handled the extracurricular activities near the end of the game.

Blackmon amassed 90 yards on eight carries. Davontae Poole recorded eight tackles including six for loss and two sacks.

Linden hosts A.L. Johnson next week.
