Linden girls upend Demopolis in low-scoring affair

The Linden Lady Patriots limited Demopolis to single digit point totals in each of the first three quarters Friday night en route to a 29-27 win over one of Class 5A’s top teams.

The Lady Tigers managed only seven points in the first eight minutes of the contest and five in the second frame. Despite the slow start, Demopolis clung to a 12-11 advantage heading into the locker room. Linden took the lead in the third, out-pacing Demopolis 8-6 for the 19-18 advantage.

Through three quarters of play, Amber Richardson had 15 of Linden’s 19 points.

Free throws made all the difference for Linden in the game’s final period as it held off a rally from Demopolis that included a three-pointer from DeeDee White.

The Lady Patriots proved steady enough at the charity stripe, connecting on six of their 10 free throw attempts to help ice the win.

Richardson led all scorers with 17 points. Imya Agee added six and Tomysha Boykin finished with five in the effort.

White led Demopolis with nine points while Erica Bennett had eight.

The loss dropped Demopolis to 18-2 while Linden moved to 12-6.
