Letter to the Editor: DHS band extends thanks to community

Dear Demopolis Community,

We would like to thank you for your support of the Demopolis High School Band program. Many of you have visited our concession stands, participated in our fund raisers, and attended our concerts. Your continued support has directly contributed to our excellence as well as enhancing the education and experience of the band students.

The band has greatly improved this year, earning all Superior Ratings at the band contest in Prattville. This is the first time this has been done in six years. We are so proud of our students. We also held our first ever “Bands on the River Contest,” which was a success, and we hope to make it an annual event. It drew hundreds of band members and supporters to our beautiful Tiger Stadium. On December 9th, we held a joint band and choir Christmas concert and the auditorium was full of supporters. The DHS Choir is directed by Miss Arthur and often participates in events with the DHS Band. Our upcoming events include our annual Mid-Spring Concert and Dinner Box Auction on March 12th, at the DHS Auditorium, and a Dessert Concert on April 28th, at the DHS Gym. Both concerts will start at 7:00 pm. We thank you in advance for your attendance.

Again, thank you to our supporters, hard working students, faculty, and band parents. We’ve had an awesome first semester and accomplished many goals. We are anticipating another wonderfully successful semester.

Sincerely,
DHS Band Director, Matthew Fields
