Lady Tigers win five to take WCHS tourney

IMG_2891Demopolis played six games over the weekend, going 5-1 and winning the Washington County tournament.

Washington County 3, Demopolis 2

The Lady Tigers (6-1) opened the draw with a 3-2 loss to Washington County in a contest that saw Kendall Hannah go 2-for-3 with a home run. Natalie Tatum worked five innings in the circle, striking out six and walking none while surrendering seven hits and three earned runs.

Demopolis 12, Fruitdale 0

Demopolis bounced back quickly with a 12-0 skunking of Fruitdale. Kayla Montz struck out 10 and gave up just one hit in five innings of work. Abbey Latham went 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Hannah doubled and drove in three runs. Bria Brown doubled and drove in a run.

Demopolis 7, Satsuma 5

The Lady Tigers kept the momentum rolling against Satsuma, going to the international tiebreaker rules to pick up the 7-5 win. Holli Gandy was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Taylor Smith went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Latham doubled. L.B. Burbage doubled and drove in two runs. Tatum worked two innings, allowing one run on two hits. Hannah worked three innings, allowing one earned run and one hit while picking up the win.

Demopolis 5, Washington County 2 

The Lady Tigers picked up a measure of retribution in their fourth game of the tournament, picking up a 5-2 win over Washington County. Hannah worked four innings, striking out eight and surrendering only two hits and one earned run to get the win. Elly Brown went 1-for-1 with a homer. Hannah was 1-for-2 with a home run. Latham finished 1-for-1 with a triple.

Demopolis 18, Flomaton 1

Demopolis worked its way out of the loser’s bracket to the championship round against Flomaton, who entered the contest unbeaten in the tournament. Demopolis won the first meeting between the teams 18-1 after batting for 30 minutes in the first inning alone.

The Lady Tigers combined for 14 hits in the contest with Courtney Smith and Tatum each driving in three runs. Tatum worked one inning in the circle, giving up two hits and one earned run. Montz struck out one in two innings of work.

Demopolis 7, Flomaton 1 

The Lady Tigers won the tournament championship with a 7-1 victory over Flomaton. Bria brown was 2-for-2. Hannah went 1-for-3 with a homer. Latham went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Tatum worked four innings, striking out five and giving up four hits and no earned run.
