Lady Tigers use defense to separate from Linden early

LINDEN — Demopolis took control from the outset and scarcely let up en route to a 61-17 win over the Linden Lady Patriots Friday night.

Tony Pittman’s Lady Tigers used tight defense early to build a 21-8 lead after one quarter of play and then relied on the same formula to work its way to a 44-15 halftime lead.

20141212 DHS vs LHS basketball_0037A lineup of primarily reserve players handled the second half duties for Demopolis as DHS went on a 14-2 run in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the teams go to a running clock.

Demopolis tallied 27 steals in the game and outrebounded the Lady Pats 40-24.

Courtney Hill led Demopolis with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals. Caleb Washington finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Shakesaney Bell had nine points and four steals while Sylvia Clayton added nine points, five steals and four assists. Ivery Moore had eight points and five rebounds for Demopolis while Darnesha Harris contributed six points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Demopolis (5-2) heads to Aliceville Monday while Linden (2-2) travels to Choctaw County Tuesday.
