The Demopolis High volleyball team (3-2, 1-0) scored big 3-0 win over reigning area champion Sumter-Central Thursday in dominating fashion.

“This is a big win for our girls. I could not be more proud of the way they played,” Demopolis coach Blythe Smith said. “They hustled for everything. They played like they really wanted to win this game.”

The Lady Tigers took the first game of the match 25-19 before rallying to a 25-18 win in game two and a 25-11 victory in game three.

“You always want to win your area games,” Smith said. “But we really needed to open area play with a win and that’s what we came out here to do today.”

The Lady Tigers trailed 4-0 to start the contest, but quickly rallied behind the serving prowess of Jade Montgomery, who pushed the team to a five-point lead before losing the serve. Demopolis scarcely looked back and would not trail again in the game.

“Our serves were good today, but it was what we did on the floor that impressed me,” Smith said. “Alex Barnett hustled to a ball on the back line that I thought we had no shot at getting. We had girls digging the ball out of the net and laying out for just about everything.”
