Lady Tigers score five in eighth to beat Sweet Water

SWEET WATER — Demopolis (8-23) hung five runs in the eighth inning to overcome county rival Sweet Water Monday with a 10-5 victory.

Sweet Water posted three runs in the second to take an early lead before Demopolis scored on in each of the fourth and fifth innings and then hung a two-spot in the sixth to take the lead. Demopolis stretched the lead to 5-3 in the top of the seventh before Sweet Water tied the game in the home half. Kendall Hannah threw out a runner at home from her left field post to end the seventh and send the contest to extra innings.

Abbey Latham ended the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored, two doubles and a stolen base. Jessica Adams went 1-for-4 with one RBI and a stolen base.

Courtney Smith was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI, a walk and two stolen bases. Natalie Tatum walked once and scored twice.

Anna Caroline Logan was 1-for-4. Jade Montgomery finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Baleigh Grace went 1-for-3 with one RBI, a walk and a run scored.

Riley King finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Hannah went 1-for-2 with two walks, a triple, one RBI and a run scored.

Tatum worked all eight innings in the contest, striking out three and allowing three earned runs.

The Lady Tigers are set to host Greenville Tuesday at 4 p.m. for their final regular season area contest of the year.
