Demopolis (21-7) advanced to the Class 5A, Area 6 finals Wednesday with a 48-21 win over Dallas County.

“That was our focus was to get in and execute extremely well on offense and play aggressive defense and kind of put the game out of reach early so we can get some rest for Sumter Central,” Demopolis head coach Tony Pittman said.

The Lady Tigers opened the game with a 21-1 first quarter, holding DCHS without a field goal until the 6:45 mark in the second quarter.

Demopolis played its regulars sparingly, getting a game high 15 points out of Shakesaney Bell before letting its reserve unit finish out the contest. Ivery Moore, Sylvia Clayton and Darnesha Harris each scored six for Demopolis.

Alexis Goodwin led the Lady Hornets with six points.

The win sets up a Friday night championship game between Demopolis and Sumter Central.

“I anticipate another great ball game. Both teams are playing extremely well right now,” Pittman said. “It’s just going to boil down to the team that does the smallest things better and executes on offense.”

Sumter advanced to the game with a 58-53 win over Wilcox Central. Treionna Hudson led Sumter with 16 points. Tanajisia Sewell and Sarahi Jemison each scored 12 points while Keona May had nine.

Quanesha Bridges led Wilcox with 14 points. Jamaya Miller and Mychel Jackson had 10 apiece for WCHS while Kierra Smith scored six.
