Lady Tigers pull to 6-7 with win over Sweet Water

Demopolis (6-7) suffered its first area loss of the season Wednesday, March 13 when it fell to Bibb County 2-0.

The Lady Choctaws rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Allie Moody and Meigan Hiott each singled to open the inning. Sydney Hobson later singled to center to put Bibb up 2-0.

The last 13 Demopolis batters of the game failed to reach base as Gracie Woodruff proved dominant. She struck out seven batters and allowed two hits over the course of the complete game shutout.

DEMOPOLIS 10, SWEET WATER 0

The Lady Tigers rebounded Monday with a 10-0 skunking of intra-county rival Sweet Water.

Lizzie Cannon struck out three over five innings of work while allowing only two hits and one walk for the complete game shutout.

Elly Brown doubled in Taylor Smith in the first for the 1-0 lead. Demopolis started a two-out rally in the bottom of the third when Abby Grace Cameron and Weezie Hughes had back-to-back singles. Brown followed with a double to move the lead to 2-0. Bria Brown then singled to left to stretch it to 4-0.

Alex Abrams ignited a rally with a one-out double in the fourth before Smith reached on an infield single. Cameron followed with a triple to plate both runners for the 6-0 advantage. Elly Brown stroked another double to drive in Cameron for the 7-0 lead. Hughes scored on McInnis’ grounder before Elly Brown made it home on a wild pitch to leave it at 9-0 after four innings of play.

Demopolis invoked the run rule in the bottom of the fifth when Smith singled with two away before scoring on Cameron’s double to end the game.
