Lady Tigers move to 11-2 after finishing as tourney runner-up

Demopolis went 3-1 Saturday and finished as runner-up in the Jan Overstreet Tournament.

Demopolis 15, Millry 0

After beating Washington County and losing to Baker to open tournament play Friday, Demopolis shelled Millry 15-0 to start Saturday’s action. The Lady Tigers started with an 11-run first inning to take command over Millry. Demopolis added three runs in the second and one in the fourth to cap the scoring in the abbreviated game.

Kayla Montz struck out nine over four innings of work while scattering three hits for the win.

Courtney Smith was 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with two RBIs, a stolen base and three runs scored. Elly Brown was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Abbey Latham went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Bria Brown finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Anna Katherine Aldridge drove in a run. Montz was 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and a run scored.

Kendall Hannah went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. Alex Abrams scored two runs. Napoleon Roberson went 1-for-1 with one RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored.

Demopolis 12, Leroy 0

Demopolis continued its offensive onslaught in the next game with a 12-0 victory over Leroy. Demopolis scored nine runs in the first inning to go along with two in the second and one if the third for the win.

Smith was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Elly Brown scored a run. Latham was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Bria Brown was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Hannah finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Natalie Tatum was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Abrams scored two runs.

Montz went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Lane Braeden Burbage was 1-for-2 with a double, one RBI and a run scored. Roberson went 1-for-1 with one RBI and a run scored. Aldridge was 1-for-1 with two RBIs.

Tatum struck out five over three innings of work while giving up two hits for the shutout win.

Demopolis 4, Satsuma 1

Demopoils punched its ticket to the tournament’s championship game with a 4-1 victory over Satsuma. The Gators became the first team outside of Class 7A Baker to score against Demopolis this season.

Demopolis scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and one in the third for the win. Hannah struck out six over seven innings of work while scattering four hits for the win.

Smith was 1-for-4. Elly Brown went 1-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored. Latham finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Bria Brown scored a run. Hannah went 3-for-3 with a double and one RBI.

Montz had one RBI while Roberson scored a run.

Baker 10, Demopolis 2

Demopolis ran out of gas in its fourth game of the day, falling to Baker 10-2. The Lady Tigers lost to Baker 6-5 Friday night but scuffled early and often while committing four errors in their seventh game in three days.

Smith and Bria Brown were each 1-for-3. Burbage and Aldridge each went 1-for-2. Hannah was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Latham finished 2-for-2 with a homer, one RBI and a run scored.

Tatum struck out nine over five innings of work while giving up only three earned runs in the effort.

Demopolis (11-2) is set to travel to Thomasville Tuesday before hosting American Christian Thursday.
