Lady Tigers finish 1-2 in Tombigbee tourney

Demopolis (11-5) dropped a pair of games and won another in the Battle of the Tombigbee over the weekend.

Excel 4, Demopolis 3

The Lady Tigers opened their tournament slate with a 4-3 loss to Excel, who scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the come-from-behind win.

Abbey Latham hit a solo homer in the top of the first for the 1-0 Demopolis lead. Latham stretched the lead to 2-0 in the third when she scored on a Kendall Hannah double. Elly Brown ripped a solo shot in the fourth to make it 3-0 before Excel mounted its comeback.

Excel manufactured a run in the bottom of the fifth before drilling a three-run homer in the sixth for the walk-off win.

Courtney Smith was 1-for-3. Latham finished 1-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored. Kendall Hannah went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Taylor Smith, Bria Brown and Natalie Tatum each finished 1-for-3 while Elly Brown was 1-for-3 with a solo homer.

Demopolis 14, Thomasville 7

Demopolis followed with a romp over rival Thomasville, scoring six runs in the first and scarcely looking back en route to a 14-7 win.

Latham led the offense, going 3-for-3 with three doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Courtney Smith was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Jessica Adams finished1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Hannah was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Taylor Smith finished 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Bria Brown scored two runs and drove in two. Elly Brown finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Tatum was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Clarke County 3, Demopolis 1

The Lady Tigers wrapped their tournament play with a 3-1 loss to Clarke County in a nine-inning thriller.

Demopolis opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer before Clarke County tied it in the top of the fifth. The score remained even until Clarke County pushed two runs across in the ninth for the 3-1 lead.

The Lady Tigers strung together just three hits on the contest. Latham was 1-for-3 with a homer and two stolen bases. Bria Borown went 1-for3 with a double. Tatum finished 1-for-2.
