Lady Tigers dispatch Wilcox

Demopolis (11-12-1, 3-0) had little trouble with Wilcox Central Wednesday, notching another Class 5A, Area 6 win in an 11-0 rout.

The Lady Tigers got a grand slam from Cameron Thomason to help fuel the offensive outburst.

“At the beginning of her career, we had her in center field. Last year in March, we transitioned her to first base. She’s had a lot on her plate on the defensive side,” Demopolis coach Stephen Campbell said of the senior. “She’s been hitting the ball harder in practice. That’s her first career home run. She’s a girl who has put four years into the program. For her to have a moment like this her senior year, I’m very proud of her.”

Jessica Adams went 2-for-2 in the game with a double. Taylor Smith was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Holli Gandy, Natalie Tatum and Elly Brown were each 1-for-2. Anna Aldridge and Rachel Smith each finished 1-for-1.

Hanna Malone picked up the win, striking out eight batters over four innings of work while giving up just two hits. Kayla Montz finished it by striking out the side in her lone inning of work.

The Lady Tigers are set to play again Friday when they host Bibb County.
