Lady Tigers blank Brookwood

Demopolis (9-11-1) put together timely hits in support of a Danielle Tatum gem Monday to beat visiting Brookwood 3-0.

Tatum struck out six while surrendering four hits and issuing no walks for the Lady Tigers in the seven-inning shutout.

Alexis Jones added the key insurance runs for the Lady Tigers in the home half of the fifth when she stroked a two-out single up the middle to plate Victoria Washburn and Zarquashia Taylor.

Washburn ignited the rally with one out in the fifth when she legged out an infield single. Tatum then reached on an error and gave way to Taylor as a courtesy runner.

Demopolis opened the scoring in the first when a dropped third strike and a throwing error allowed Sydney Colyar to work her way all the way around to third. Jones followed with a RBI single to plate Colyar and stake Tatum to a 1-0 lead.

The two-hit, three-RBI effort from Jones highlighted an offensive day that saw Washburn and Zoe Lewis each record two hits in addition to a Riley King single.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play again Thursday at Hale County.
