Lady Tigers beat Selma, move to 9-4

The Demopolis Lady Tiger volleyball team scored a 3-1 win over Selma Tuesday night, pushing its record to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the area.

“It was a big win for us,” Demopolis coach Blythe Smith said. “We are nowhere close to achieving our goals, but we did keep ourselves on track with this win.”

The Lady Tigers lost the first game of the day 25-22 before rallying to a 25-20 win in game two. Demopolis scored a 25-22 win in game three to put itself in position to close out the match, which came with a 25-17 victory.

“I’m very proud of my girls for getting this win,” Smith said. “There were stretches that we didn’t play very well. And there were plenty of times that we did things to hurt ourselves. But this team is probably the best I have ever had in terms of sticking together and pushing through their struggles together.”

The win came one day after the Lady Tigers pulled a 2-1 victory over Jackson and a 2-0 win over Clarke County in a road tri-match.

Demopolis dropped game one to Jackson 25-21 before rebounding to 25-12 and 15-11 victories. The Lady Tigers then beat Clarke County 25-22 and 25-21.

“We’ve done some good things, but one of our goals is to have a winning season and we have not clinched that yet,” Smith said.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to hit the road Thursday for a tri-match against Hale County and Greensboro in Moundville.

“We just have to keep working and keep getting better,” Smith said. “We need a good practice Wednesday and then we need to get better Thursday.”
