LINDEN– Love-hate relationships tend to entertain emotional instability. The unpredictability that comes along with such insecurity could be found on the scoreboard Tuesday when the Lady Patriots of Linden hosted their county foe for a good early season test for both squads—with the end result favoring LHS after they topped the Lady Panthers of Marengo High by a score of 63-49.

A game that had almost two dozen lead changes saw the third period end with the Lady Panthers on top thanks in large part to the dynamic duo of Alesia Bowser and Kiana Lewis.

Lewis and Bowser accounted for all 10 points in the 10-2 run that the Panthers enjoyed during the final four minutes of the third period. The Lady Patriots entered the final 8:00 trailing 41-37 and looking for a quick stop and score.

Just as she had done all game long, Alexis Johnson came up huge in a crucial moment for the Lady Pats. Her steal and full court drive-in-layup gave LHS the thrust that would eventually catapult the Linden to the W.

The loose ball on the ensuing possession was gobbled up by Imiya Agee; who did a nice job eyeing the court and finding Felecia Dukes for the bank job off the glass, notching things at 41 all. After swapping buckets the next two possessions, Linden’s ladies finished taming the Panthers with a 14-to-2 run in the remaining three minutes of action.

The anticipated matchup of two teams who combined for nearly 30 wins a season ago saw both squads amped up.  The excitement would turn to agitation as both squads fell victim to over-aggressive play, resulting in early foul trouble.

“We had the happy-hands.” Linden coach Teressa Bolden said regarding the number of fouls both teams amassed Tuesday. “We’ve got to do a better job of hitting our free throws in a game like this. We needed to do a better job passing and guarding the post than we did early on and I believe we did that down the stretch.”

Foul trouble undoubtedly hurt LHS more considering the elements of the matchups on the court.  It was a battle of the bigs as Alexis Johnson and Alesia Bowser went hard in the paint all night long—both of whom are listed at an even 6-0.

“Bowser had a heck of a game. We didn’t do well keeping her in check.” Bolden said in regard to the Panther power forward who racked up a whopping 20 rebounds to go along with her game high 28 points. “We’re going to have to get better at that. We’re going to have to get better every day in everything we do if we are to reach our full potential.”

Bowser had four steals to go along with her 28 points and 20 rebounds. Lewis added 11 points and seven boards for Marengo.

Johnson paced Linden with 18 points, 15 rebounds and seven steals. Tomysha Boykin added 15 points while Agee had seven rebounds.
