Lady Longhorns trounce Meadowview in region semis

LIVINGSTON — Marengo Academy (23-0) took its time finding a rhythm Friday afternoon but used a 20-0 second quarter to spur a 47-21 win over Meadowview Christian in the semifinals of the AISA 1A Region 2 Tournament.

The teams were scoreless three minutes into the game before Marengo turned it on and worked its way to a 13-4 opening quarter. Marengo took a 33-4 lead into the half and stretched it to 45-9 by the end of the third frame.

Andrea Edmonds scored the lone bucket of the fourth quarter for the Lady Longhorns as they utilized the time to give their younger players more experience.

Brooke Smyly led the way with 17 points for Marengo Academy to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.

Edmonds finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Conner Etheridge added seven points and six rebounds in the effort.

Claudia Kendrick led Meadowview with eight points. Taylor Roberts had six points while Christina Dabits finished with five points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Longhorns move to Saturday’s finals against the winner of Sparta and Patrician Academy. That game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Pruitt Hall on the campus of the University of West Alabama.
