Lady Longhorns move to 13-0

LINDEN ā€” Marengo Academy (13-0, 2-0) downed South Choctaw 4-0 at Scott Park Tuesday behind the strength of an Andrea Edmonds gems.

Edmonds proved perfect through six innings before surrendering a leadoff single in the top of the seventh. She finished the afternoon with seven strikeouts over seven innings while allowing only two hits in the contest.

The Lady Longhorns backed up her effort in the circle with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth. The big blow of the game came off the bat of Reesa Holifield, who doubled in two runs in the home half of the fourth frame.

Holifield finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Edmonds helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double. She gave way to courtesy runner Kimberly Moore who scored a run.

Chandler Stenz went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Anna Michael Crocker was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Katie Tucker was 1-for-3 with a triple. Brooke Smyly was 1-for-3. Conner Etheridge went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Taylor Barley finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The win followed a Friday tilt in which the Lady Longhorns hit the road to thump region rival Patrician 11-1.

Edmonds struck out nine over five in that contest while allowing only four hits. Stenz finished 2-for-2 with two walks, three stolen bases and three runs scored.

Crocker went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Tucker was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Smyly went 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Ehteridge was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Holifield finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs a double and a run scored while Barley went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Moore also scored a run following an Edmonds walk.

Marengo Academy is scheduled to play again Tuesday at Meadowview Christian in Selma before going to compete in the Macon-East Montgomery tournament over the weekend.
