Lady Longhorns blast Sumter

SELMA — Marengo Academy (18-5) took care of business quickly in its opening game of region tournament play Thursday as it dispatched Sumter 15-0 in three innings.

The Lady Longhorns clinched no worse than the No. 2 seed in the AISA state tournament next weekend.

Andrea Edmonds allowed two hits over three scoreless frames. Chandler Stenz scored two runs and stole a base. Anna Michael Crocker went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Hannah Freeman scored two runs as a courtesy runner.

Conner Etheridge went 1-for-1 with a walk, one RBI and two runs scored. Amber Wilkinson drew a walk and scored a run.

Edmonds went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer and two RBIs. Mary Jordan Drake scored a run as a courtesy runner for Edmonds.

Brooke Smyly went 1-for-1 with a walk, one RBI and two runs scored. Laramey Griffith was 1-for-1. Macey Petrey went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, one RBI and a run scored.

Cailtin Andrews drew a walk. Kimberly Moore scored a run. Ryan Hale went 1-for-1 with one RBI. Payton Stokes finished 1-for-1 with a walk, a homer and two runs scored.

The Lady Longhorns will vie for the No. 1 seed Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Patrician Academy at Meadowview Christian.
