James Enoch Campbell

James Enoch Campbell age 96 of Grove Hill, AL died September 7, 2015 at Mobile Infirmary. He was born December 7, 1918 in Wilcox County, AL and moved to Grove Hill as a young child.

Mr. Campbell was one of 13 children of Clarence and Jesse Maude Walton Campbell. He began a long career as a master wood working craftsman. Launching the career at the age of 17 when he began work with the conservation corp. (c.c.camp) during the F.D.R. administration. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in European-African Theaters during World War II. After the war he returned to his home near Allen resuming his career in farming and building furniture. With his training in wood working he worked from the 1950’s – 1970’s with McClendon Manufacturing Company, later McGuire Church Pews Manufacturing, and Dumas Manufacturing. He finished his years of working with Alabama State Highway Department wood working shop. After his retirement he continued his love for working with wood building and replicating furniture at the Campbell’s Refinishing Shop. Many family members continue to enjoy furniture that Mr. Campbell built. This was a joy for him and for those who have these handcrafted items.

He is survived by two sons, Lou (Betty) Campbell of Grove Hill, AL; and Roger (Nancy) Campbell of Marion, VA; daughter, Jane (Mike) Patterson of Opelika, AL; brother, Bennie Campbell of Columbia, TN; sister, Edna Tarleton of Grove Hill, AL; and brother, Gerald Campbell of Grove Hill, AL; five grandchildren, Linne (Eric) Roman of Fulton, AL; Lesley (Randall) Jones of Millry, AL; Kristin (Bobby) Michael of Charlotte, NC; Rebecca Campbell of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Ryan (Regina) Kearley of Auburn, AL; five great grandchildren, Campbell and Clarke Graves, Avery and Morgan Michael, and James Austin Kearley.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years in 2011, Jimmie Bernice Fowler Campbell.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Union Baptist Church from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Grove Hill, AL.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Rosa Miller, Laura Lewis, Brenda Garrick, Eunice Chapman, and Janice Ezell for their dedicated, loyal special care for Mr. Campbell over the past 6 years.
