Howard Briggs

Howard Warren Briggs, 89, of Mobile Al, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Dec.31, 2012. He was born in Waterford PA on June 9, 1923 and was a long time resident of Putnam AL.

Howard was a decorated World War II Veteran and received many honors including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 894 and a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile. During his long career in the Air Force and NASA, he worked on the Apollo and the Minuteman projects as an Air Force Space Systems Quality Control Representative. After his retirement he taught electronics at the Marengo County Area Vocational center in Linden, AL.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Downey Briggs; father, Edwin Briggs; mother, Angeline Nye Briggs; sister, Betty Jo Janowski, and brother Bob Briggs, He is survived by his wife, Shirley Briggs, daughter, Paula Ann (David) Evans; three sons, Russell Ray Briggs; Mitchell Warren (Lucinda) Briggs; and Todd Briggs; three stepdaughters, Katrina L. Mitchell; Malaina L. (Jerry) Havens; and Mariesa E. Anderson; one stepson, R. Nolan (Kelly) Larson; one brother, Harley T. Briggs, 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 32 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Donna Murphy.

Visitation will be held at Putnam Baptist Church from 10 to 11 am, Sat. Jan. 5, 2013, service to begin at 11 am. Interment will be at Putnam cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Putnam Baptist Church (Cemetery Fund), 150 Bunny Creek Rd, Thomasville, AL. 36784.
