‘Horns unleash first quarter fury, coast to 48-13 win

TOXEY – A tremendous first-quarter scoring fury allowed Marengo Academy to coast to a 48-13 victory over South Choctaw Friday night.

Hayden Huckabee’s arm and legs contributed to the first four Lonhorn scores – all in the opening stanza. On the first play of the game, Huckabee tossed a 66-yard touchdown pass to Shade Pritchett, and MA never looked back.

Huckabee added touchdown runs of 49, 70 and 41 yards in the opening period, while Andrew Martin added a four-yard scoring run with nine second remaining in the first.

Josh Holifield accounted for MA’s only points in the second  with an 11-yard run, and after a scoreless third quarter, MA rounded out its offensive display with a 10-yard Weldon Aydelott run.

The Longhorns amassed 454 total yards, including 350 on the ground. Huckabee accounted for 172 of those rushing yards on only four carries. Aydelott finished with 57 yards on 11 attempts.

Huckabee threw the ball three times, completing two for 104 yards.

On defense, Hayden Hall had 13 tackles, followed by Carson Huckabee’s nine stops. Pritchett had a pick for Marengo.

The win lifts MA to a 2-1 mark. The ‘Horns host Patrician Thursday night in Linden.
