Four Tigers get All-America honors

rp_primary_Taylor_BurnettAALEESBURG, Va. – Led by offensive tackle Taylor Burnett, four University of West Alabama football players have been named as 2013 Beyond Sports Network Division II All-Americans.

Burnett, a senior from Spanish Fort, Ala., was a first team selection. Sophomore running back Javae Swindle from Thorsby, Ala., and senior cornerback Malcolm Butler from Vicksburg, Miss., were named to the second team. Senior safety Demetruce McNeal from College Park, Ga., was a third team choice.

The 2013 BSN All America Team was chosen by votes from sports information directors, coaches and media from around the nation, as well as the BSN Staff.

Burnett anchored an offensive front that paved the way for the Gulf South Conference’s leading scoring, rushing and total offense. Swindle led the GSC in rushing with 1,296 yards and 12 touchdowns on 145 carries. Butler made 45 tackles and led the GSC with 18 passes defended, while McNeal tied for the UWA team lead with 63 tackles and also intercepted three passes.
