ESPN 104.9 names Tucker Jones Player of the Week

ESPN 104.9 Coaches Show host Rob Pearson presents Demopolis High quarterback Tucker Jones with a commemorative T-shirt to honor him as Player of the Week Tuesday night at the Batter Up Sports Grill in Demopolis.

A year ago, Tucker Jones was coming to grips with the fact that his leg was broken and his season was over. Injured in just the fifth game of his tenure as starting quarterback for Demopolis High School, Jones had plenty of reason for trepidation when the Tigers’ annual meeting with rival Thomasville rolled back around almost exactly a year after the play that ended his junior season.

How Jones responded to that anxiety, and to the daunting reality that he and his classmates had never beaten Thomasville in their high school careers, was the stuff of small town folklore. Jones’ performance during Demopolis’ 27-26 win over Thomasville last Friday night will likely stand out decades from now when he tells his own children of his high school athletic exploits. And it was certainly more than enough to earn him ESPN 104.9 Coaches Show Player of the Week honors.

Jones turned in a career night, going connecting on 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 226 yards and three touchdown strikes while also rushing for 112 yards and another score.

For his efforts, ESPN 104.9 presented Jones with a commemorative T-shirt and put him on the air during the opening segment of its weekly Coaches Show Tuesday night at the Batter Up Sports Grill in Demopolis.
