ESPN 104.9 names Marquis Shelton Player of the Week

When a player rushes for 125 yards and three touchdowns, it is a pretty nice game. And, usually, that player can at least get into the Player of the Week conversation. When he rushes for 125 yards and three touchdowns on only three carries, that puts him firmly at the top of the conversation.

That is exactly what Linden tailback Marquis Shelton did last week against J.U. Blacksher, amassing 125 yards and three touchdowns while never getting tackled. He carried the ball three times in the game’s first half, scoring on runs of 17, 53 and 55 yards respectively.

The eye-popping statistical line and the manner in which he achieved it was enough to earn the senior the Player of the Week distinction for the ESPN 104.9 Coaches Show.

Regarded in previous years as a strong runner off the edges for the Patriots, Shelton has done more between-the-tackles work in the early part of 2012. Friday night, he managed to do that work while keeping his uniform completely clean.

The York-based radio station honored Shelton Tuesday evening at Batter Up in Demopolis.
