Ella Mae Newton

Ella Mae Altman Newton age 85 of Thomasville, AL., formerly of Andrews, SC, died April 4, 2015 in Thomasville, AL. Mrs. Newton was born March 13, 1930 in Suttons, SC, to the late William Emmett Altman and Leslie Fair Altman. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1948. She was a member of Pineview Baptist Church and enjoyed Bible study, cooking, and sewing. Besides her parents, Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by a her son, Clarence L. Newton, III; brothers, Emmett Eston Altman, Nicolas Hagwood Altman, Henry Lonnie Altman, James Theron Altman, and David Eugene Altman; sisters, Ellen A. Hunter, Nettie A. Ellis, Mary E. Altman, Sarah A. Marshall, Lillian A. Crosby, and Leslie Fair Altman. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Clarence L. Newton, Jr., daughters, Jennifer N. Gatling (Mike) of Ridgland, MS; daughter, Cynthia N. Parnell (Polie) of Cornelius, NC; three grandchildren, Michael C. Gatling (Nicki) of Madison, MS; Courtney P. Whittaker (Andy) of Cornelius, NC; and Justin E. Parnell (Susan) of Sparta, NJ; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie A. Campbell of Blythewood, SC; and Roberta A. Thompson of Laurel Hill, NC; several nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held at Pineview Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time with Rev. Mitch Thrower and Dr. James Best officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Thomasville, AL. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Pineview Baptist Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, AL.
