Edna Steele Aman

Edna Steele Bell Aman, age 102 of Eutaw, Alabama died on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Edna Steele was born on December 17, 1912. She was a native of Boligee, Alabama where she taught school for 19 years. She finished her 27 years of teaching at Greene County High School, Eutaw Elementary, and Warrior Academy. She graduated from Alabama College (Montevallo) with a B.A. degree in 1932.

She was a member of the Eutaw Arts Club, Greene County Historical Society, and Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary teacher’s organization) for 25 years. She was a life-long member of Boligee Presbyterian Church, W.I. C. and taught Sunday school for many years.

Her parents, William Foster Bell and Sallie Steele Bell; and her husband of 65 years, Walter Boyd Aman, brother Julian Foster Bell and son-in-law, Charles E Ramsey III, preceded Edna in death.

She is survived by her three daughters, Sallie Steele Aman White (Carlos) of Birmingham, Laura Alice Aman Ramsey of Pensacola Beach, Linda Dean Aman Ellis (Edwin) of Northport, two grandchildren Kana Anne Ellis Caplan (Richard), Aman Scott Ellis, and two great grand-children Ellis Benjamin Caplan and Ruby Dean Caplan.

Her service will be Sunday, September 27 at 2 p.m. at the Boligee Presbyterian Church in Boligee, Alabama with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Thornton officiating with the eulogy by Irving Hitt. Prior to the service there will be a reception and visitation at 1:00 in the church fellowship hall. Graveside services will be at the St. Marks Episcopal Church Cemetery in Boligee following the funeral. Kirk Funeral Home in Greensboro, Alabama will direct.

Active pallbearers will be Thed Spree, Houston Davis, Walter Leonard, Jack Pow, Farley Greene and Grant Hunt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Foster Bell, Wanda Bell, Jim Burch, Bobby Thomas, Beadie Bryant, Willice Lashley, Paul Kiker, and Robert Burns.

The family would like to thank the staff and administration of Forest Manor Nursing Home especially Station 3 and her longtime caregiver, Beadie Bryant for their excellent and loving care. The family would also like to thank Dr. Ross Vaughn for his medical care for many years.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Boligee Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
