Early morning wreck claims life

On March 14, The Demopolis Police Department, Demopolis Fire and Rescue Department and Amstar EMS responded to a two-vehicle accident on U.S Highway 80 which resulted in one fatality.

An 18-wheeler and a white van collided on the highway near the Demopolis Villas apartment complex around 3:16 a.m. The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered no injuries.

The deceased driver of the white van has been identified as James Williams, 28, of Star City, Ark. DPD Chief Tommie Reese, stated that (Williams) was in town working construction at Rock-Tenn.

Demopolis Police Officers along with Alabama State Troopers remained on the scene most of the day Thursday working the accident.

Chief Reese declined to release additional information until the investigation is completed.
