Duckett 23rd after first day at Bassmasters

As anglers take to the frigid waters of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees near Tulsa, Oklahoma for the second day of Bassmaster Classic fishing Saturday, Demopolis’ Boyd Duckett is looking to improve his 23rd-place standing after the event’s first day.

On Friday, Duckett brought five fish to the weigh-in, totalling 12 pounds, 11 ounces. The leader after one day was Michael Iaconelli of Pittsgrove, NJ, who managed five bass and a total weight of 21-8.

The biggest catch was a 7-pound, four-ouncer by Mark Pierce of Clarksville, TN.

The three-day event concludes Sunday, with the winner taking home a $500,000 payday.

Duckett won the event in 2007, becoming the first fisherman to win the Classic in his home-state waters.
