DPD searching for Robertson Bank robbery suspect

Demopolis Police Department officers are currently canvassing the downtown area in search of a robbery suspect.

The suspect attempted to rob the downtown branch of Robertson Banking Company. According to Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese, the suspect is unarmed. Reese could provide no further detail as the investigation is ongoing. It is unknown what, if anything, the suspect made off with in the process of the robbery.

Communications broadcasted on the police scanner near the time of the incident indicated the suspect is a black male described as tall and slender and wearing blue jeans, a dark windbreaker style jacket and a white hat. One patron at RBC indicated that the suspect walks with a slight limp on his left side.

“There was an incident at the bank today at about 11:45AM. The police are investigating. We’re referring any questions to Chief Reese for updated information. We have good video of everything that occurred and they are investigating,” Roberston Banking Company spokesperson Lee Pritchett said. “Nobody was hurt. All of our staff responded appropriately.

A press release from the Demopolis Police Department Tuesday afternoon stated that an unknown black male entered the Robertson Banking Company downtown branch and took an undisclosed sum of money off the counter. The release indicated the suspect never presented a weapon but that one RBC teller was knocked down by the suspect as he fled the scene.

Reese indicated the Alabama Bureau of Investigation as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the case.
