DHS varsity moves to 8-2 with two Saturday wins

CLANTON — Demopolis (8-2) picked up a pair of wins Saturday when it downed host Chilton County High and Calera.

Demopolis dropped Chilton County 6-3 in the opener with Brock Montgomery (2-0) picking up the win after working four and two-thirds innings of five-hit ball. Stephen Stewart pitched the Tigers out of trouble in the home half of the fifth when he defused a bases-loaded, two-out situation to keep Chilton County at bay. Mason Rogers came on to work an inning a third for his second save of the season.

Matt Eicher went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored in the game. Montgomery finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and a run scored.

Devin Stroud scored a pair of runs while Rogers went 2-for-2 with two doubles, one RBI and a run scored.

Wesley Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Stewart picked up a RBI on a sacrifice fly while Josh Mangum went 1-for-3 with a double.

Demopolis then turned around to drop Calera 13-4 in the second game of the day. Michael Brooker (2-0) picked up the win, working three innings and surrendering four hits and four runs while striking out three.

Will Tucker worked three innings of three-hit ball while striking out one. Tyler Oates surrendered one hit and struck out one in his lone inning of work.

Eicher went 1-for-2 with three runs scored and a RBI. Montgomery went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Rogers finished 1-for-5 with three runs scored and a RBI.

John Anthony Morrison was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Oates went 2-for-5 with a run scored and four RBIs. Tucker was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Walker Davis finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.

The Tigers are scheduled to host Bibb County in a double-header Tuesday night.
