Demopolis volleyball gets first win

By Jeremy D. Smith

GREENVILLE — The Demopolis High School volleyball team picked up its first win of the season in dominating fashion Thursday with a 3-0 thrashing of Greenville.

Demopolis took game one 25-7 and game two 25-9 before letting Greenville crack double digits in game three. The visiting Lady Tigers took game three 25-10.

“We played better as a team tonight,” Demopolis coach Blythe Smith said. “Movement and communication were things we worked on at practice and it paid off today.”

The Lady Tigers had scuffled against Thomasville and Linden over the last week. Smith is hopeful the win will improve both chemistry and confidence for her team.

“I may have found some better chemistry today that will work against upcoming opponents,” Smith said. “This win against an area team definitely helps increase morale as we head for the rest of the season.”

The Lady Tigers (1-4, 1-1) will have next week off due to academic testing, but will return to action Sept. 25 when they host area foe Selma.
