Demopolis teen injured in accidental shooting

A Demopolis teenager was injured in an accidental shooting in Linden at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday Aug. 25.

According to Linden Police Chief Robert Alston, police responded to 1751 West Cahaba Avenue after receiving a call about gun fire at approximately 3 a.m. Paramedics and police arrived on the scene about the same time, with paramedics quickly attending to the injured teen.

Allegedly, Michael Blane Gill, 19, was handling a handgun when it fired, shooting the juvenile in the lower leg, shattering her tibia. Chief Alston said, “(Gill) was hysterical over the accidental shooting when the police arrived but also cooperated with the police.”

Upon searching Gill’s room, police discovered evidence resulting in Gill’s arrest on five charges. Those charges include: reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, second degree possession of stolen property (firearm), and possession of counterfeit money.

Gill was able to post a $10,000 bond Sunday morning.

The injured juvenile, who was transported to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital and later transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, is expected to be released today.
