Demopolis sweeps Hale County in double-header

Demopolis (10-4) traveled to Moundville Tuesday to take both ends of a double-header from Hale County. The Tigers took the opener 12-4 and the nightcap 4-2.

Demopolis 12, Hale County 4

The Tigers staked starter R.J. Cox to a six-run lead in the first inning of the opening game and led 12-1 by the middle of the fifth.

Jonathon Lewis went 1-for-2 with a double while Harrison Wood scored two runs. Hunter Colyar finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Cox was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Tavion Broadwater and Jacob Rodrigues each scored a run.

Luke Yelverton scored two runs while Jamarcus Ezell went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Chandler Barton and Wesley Holemon each scored a run.

Cox struck out five over five innings of work for the win.

Demopolis 4, Hale County 2

Demopolis scored three runs in the top of the sixth of the nightcap to steal a 4-2 win from Hale County.

Ezell was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Chandler Barton reached on an error and later scored on a passed ball put Demopolis up 3-2. Lewis then singled in Demetrious Davis for the 4-2 lead.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Lewis reached on a dropped third strike and scored on an error.

Demopolis notched four hits in the game. Lewis was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Cox and Rodrigues each went 1-for-3. Rodrigues’ hits was a double. Ezell was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Barton scored a run. Davis scored a run.

Yelverton struck out four over five innings of work and allowed only two earned runs for the win. Ezell picked up the two-inning save, fanning two and allowing two hits.
