Demopolis soccer shreds Hillcrest

Demopolis (7-5-1) showed no ill effects of a Spring Break layoff Wednesday as it thrashed visiting Class 6A foe Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 7-3.

The Tiger varsity rushed out to a 5-0 halftime lead after a 45-minute period in which Austin Brooks scored two goals.

Brooks opened the match with a goal off an assist from Adam Brooker. The second Tiger goal of the contest came off the foot of Brooker, who cashed in on a Christian Corbitt assist for the 2-0 lead.

A Brooks penalty kick stretched the lead to 3-0 before Oscar Valdivia connected on a shot from approximately 40 yards out to up the advantage to 4-0.

Corbitt made a heads up play on the fifth goal of the night as he simultaneously put the Tigers up 5-0 and handed Brooker his second assist when he cashed on a rebound attempt off a Brooker shot.

Brooker picked up his third assist of the night on a converted goal by Tyler Overstreet. Brooks capped the scoring off Corbitt’s second assist of the evening.

“Overall a good game. We did a lot of passing and we did a lot of the fundamental and tactical things we’ve been working on in practice,” head coach Keith Jackson said.

The Tigers are scheduled to travel to Daphne Friday to take on Bayside Academy before heading to Gulf Shores Saturday to challenge Foley and Gulf Shores High.

“Looking forward to the weekend and I am hoping that we continue our winning ways,” Jackson said.
