Demopolis schools to dismiss at 1 p.m. Friday

Demopolis City Schools will dismiss at 1 p.m. Friday in view of the high school football team’s second round playoff matchup on the road at Spanish Fort.

The Tigers will meet the Toros for the first time since their 2009 semi-final contest, a game that Demopolis won just a week before claiming the Class 5A state championship.

Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin said the decision to close school early was made to allow fans,  parents and other supporters ample time to make the near-three-hour drive to Spanish Fort.

“I thank the board for allowing the school system to release at 1 p.m. That’s going to allow our fans adequate time to travel safely to Spanish Fort for the ball game,” Griffin said. “We encourage all of our fans and the City of Demopolis to get out and let’s get on the road and support this team through this second round match as we charge toward hopefully what will be another state championship for our football program. We just thank everyone for the support we’ve had this year and we just hope it will continue.”

Tickets to the game are $7 each and can be purchased at the gate the night of the game or through the Demopolis High School office.
