Demopolis schools closing at 11 a.m. due to stomach virus outbreak

Demopolis City Schools will dismiss at 11 a.m. Friday due to a substantial stomach virus outbreak.

“We have an outbreak of a stomach virus to the point that we have multiple teachers and students absent and we have multiples who need to leave as a result of this,” Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin said.

By staying until 11 a.m., the school system will not need to make up for the day and will meet its daily lunch requirement.

Griffin said the virus began to become an issue at U.S. Jones Elementary School Thursday and the problem appeared exacerbated Friday.

“I’m going to give extra time to the custodial staff to disinfect the school,” Griffin said. “My advice is to not go by one of (the schools).”
