Demopolis Police Department utilizing prescription takeback unit

MonicaThe Demopolis Police Department is utilizing a Prescription Drug collection unit. The collection unit was obtained through a grant from the CVS Pharmacy Medication Disposal for Safer Communities. The Collection Unit is located in the lobby of Demopolis Police Headquarters, 301 East Washington Street.

Since its installation in September 2014, the DPD has collected 37 pounds of prescription drugs. Ten of those pounds were collected in April 2015.

The DPD urges individuals not to dispose of leftover drugs by flushing them or throwing them in the trash.

“We encourage you to continue bringing your unused prescription medications, patches, and vitamins to the Prescription Drug Collection Unit. No questions asked,” DPD Sergeant Monica Oliver said.

The unit cannot be used for liquid medications, needles, or anything with blood.

Unused prescription medications, patches, and vitamins can be dropped off between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for holidays.
