Demopolis moves to 19-5 with Mississippi sweep

CLARKDALE, Miss. ā€” Demopolis (19-5) polished off a six-win week Saturday with a pair of tightly-contested victories over Mississippi programs Clarkdale and Northeast Lauderdale.

The Tigers picked up a 3-1 win over Clarkdale in a contest that saw Brock Montgomery (3-1) strike out nine batters over four and two-thirds innings. Montgomery scattered four hits and two walks while allowing just one earned run in the win.

Stephen Stewart came in for an inning and a third to pick up the hold for the Tigers in a one-hit appearance while Mason Rogers (4) recorded the save by striking out one in a hitless ninth.

Rogers also did damage at the plate for the Tigers, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Wesley Anderson finished 2-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI while Walker Davis went 1-for-2 with a RBI.

The Tigers tallied seven hits in the contest but stranded 13 runners to leave the game within reach for Clarkdale.

Demopolis needed nine innings to defeat Northeast Lauderdale 3-2.

The Tigers led 1-0 early but allowed a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Northeast hung another run on the board in the top of the ninth to take a 2-1 lead before a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth ended with a Matt Eicher RBI to secure the 3-2 win.

Eicher finished the game 2-for-5 with a double and the game-winning RBI. Rogers went 3-for-3 with a home run. Montgomery, Anderson, Davis and Tyler Oates also had hits in the contest.

Michael Brooker started the game for the Tigers, working a sterling five innings that included just four hits and one earned run to go along with 10 strikeouts.

Will Tucker (5-0) went the rest of the way for Demopolis for the win, holding Northeast Lauderdale to three hits and one run over four innings of work.

The Tigers are scheduled to play again Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Thomasville before traveling to Selma Friday for a double-header.
