Demopolis Middle dumps Jackson for 3-0 start
The Demopolis Middle School football team upended Jackson Middle 36-0 Monday night. A.J. Jackson led the Tigers on the ground with 89 yards rushing and a touchdown on just six carries.
Derrick Birl carried the ball one time for 36 yards and a score.
Russ Logan added 38 yards on three carries while Brandon Simmons ran for 28 yards on three carries. Simmons also led all receivers with 32 yards and a touchdown on two catches.
Logan completed one pass for a 24-yard touchdown while Andrew Patterson went 3 for 5 for 35 yards.
Xavier Jowers led the defense with eight total tackles, two interceptions and one interception return for a touchdown. Jackson finished with seven total tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Walt Ezell recorded a sack while Taylor Woodall and Tyler Jones each combined for a sack.
Trey McKinley and Keyshawn Johnson each forced a fumble. Darius Birl picked off a pass and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown.
Jones, Birl and Demetrius Davis each scored a two-point conversion in the game.
“This was the most complete game our guys have played,” Demopolis coach Jeremy Silcox said. “Everyone knows they are going to get a strong opponent when they play Jackson, and I am proud of the way our guys responded. They are listening to coaching and understand that they can’t become complacent with the tough schedule we play.”
DMS is 3-0 and is scheduled to host Sweet Water Monday, Sept. 23 at Memorial Stadium on Cedar Avenue. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
