Demopolis man arrested for making terrorist threat

Local law enforcement agencies combined May 2 on the arrest of Robert Gregory Coates, 54, of Demopolis. Coates is alleged to have made a verbal terrorist threat via phone against the Sumter County Circuit Clerk’s office, an incident that occurred Tuesday, May 2.

“After he was detained, we found sufficient evidence to corroborate what was reported,” Greg Griggers, District Attorney for the 17th Judicial Circuit, said.
Coats faces felony charges of making a terrorist threat pursuant to Alabama Criminal Code 13A-10-15.
“We take threats against public officials and public buildings very seriously,” Griggers said.
The 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force made the arrest in cooperation with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department, Livingston Police Department and the UWA Police Department.
