Demopolis loses game one late, takes game two vs. Beauregard

Demopolis rallied Friday to beat Beauregard 6-4 in game two of a Class 5A second round playoff series behind the pitching efforts of R.J. Cox and Andrew Patterson.

The Tigers were on the verge of winning game one before a late Beauregard rally resulted in a 6-5 Hornets win. Demopolis trailed 3-0 after one inning of play but got things moving with a DeDe Davis one-out walk in the top of the third. Chandler Barton singled ahead of a Hunter Colyar RBI grounder to cut the deficit to 3-1. Cox singled in Barton to cut it to 3-2. Demopolis tied it in the top of the fourth as Ryan Morrison and Hunter Thrash singled to open the inning. A double play ball allowed Morrison to score to tie the game.

Jonathon Lewis doubled to open the sixth and later scored on a passed ball for the 4-3 Demopolis lead. A Cox single and a Casper RBI double in the seventh moved the Tiger lead to 5-3.

Beauregard’s Jacob Callaway led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot to cut it to 5-4. The Tigers found themselves an out away from winning the game when an error on a grounder to short loaded the bases. Kenneth Overby then stroked a two-run walkoff double to left to give the Hornets the 6-5.

Colyar worked a complete game, striking out seven and scattering five hits while allowed three earned runs.

Demopolis (19-7) plays Beauregard in game three at 11 a.m. Saturday.
