Demopolis High golf advances to sub-state round

The Demopolis High boys golf team advanced through sectionals Monday with a third place finish and punched its ticket into sub-state play.

“The sectionals featured some of the best teams in the south and were stronger than any teams we have played all year,” Demopolis coach Mike Black said.

Braden Spiller was the low medalist for the Tigers followed by Sam Yeager, Blake Bryant, Jordan Williams and Chandler Stuedeman. The team totaled a 320 score.

The Tigers will go to Montgomery on Monday May 5 to play in the sub state at the Lagoon Park Golf Course.

The lone female golfer on the squad, Anna Reid, also advanced to sub-state play when she worked her way through sectional play in Mobile.

“I believe the boys and Anna will advance to state if they play their best golf and play within themselves,” Black said. “We will see come Monday if the Tigers can break that state bracket that has eluded them for the past two years.”

Reid is also set to play at Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery on Monday.

The Tigers wrapped the regular season April 24 with a defeat of Thomasville in an 18-hole match.

The Tigers shot a 300 for the first time this season with Braden Spiller leading the way with a 66, five under par. The win was the 27th victory of the season for Demopolis.
