Demopolis goes on weekend tear, scores 39 runs in three wins

Demopolis (14-11) won three games in less than 24 hours, outscoring opponents 39-5 over the stretch that culminated Saturday afternoon at Sipsey Valley.

Demopolis 18, Dallas County 1

The Tigers opened the weekend with an 18-1 dismissal of Dallas County High Friday afternoon.

Luke Yelverton (5-2) picked up the win, striking out four over four innings while scattering two hits and a walk and surrendering one earned run. Tyler Oates closed out the game, striking out one in one inning of work.

Matt Eicher went 1-for-4 in the contest with four RBIs and a run scored. Seth Aiken finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Oates drove in a run and scored a run. Michael Brooker was 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Jacob Rodrigues was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

John Anthony Morrison finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Yelverton helped himself at the plate with a 1-for-3 day that included a double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Wil Stephens was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Ryan Schroeder finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Wesley Dunn and Adam Sellers each walked and scored while Matthew Trest was 1-for-1 with a RBI and a run scored. Tripp Perry drew a walk in his only plate appearance of the game.

The Tigers moved on to face Sipsey Valley and Winfield Saturday in a road double-header.

Demopolis 9, Sipsey Valley 2

Demopolis opened the day with a 9-2 dispatching of Sipsey that saw Sellers throw a complete game in which he struck out nine batters over seven innings of work while scattering nine hits, walking two and allowing one earned run.

Demopolis supported the effort with a seven-run fourth that buoyed the offensive outburst. Eicher went 1-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI. Aiken was 1-for-1 with a run scored, a walk and two bean balls.

Oates finished 2-for-2 with a run scored, one RBI, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Brooker finished the game with a run scored, one RBI and a pair of HBPs.

Morrison was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Stephens was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Stewart finished 1-for-4 with a run scored while Schroeder was 1-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Demopolis 12, Winfield 2

Demopolis wrapped up the day with a 12-2 win over Winfield in which Brooker struck out two over four innings of work while allowing no earned runs. Stewart worked a pair of scoreless frames, striking out two batters in the process.

The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning, four in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth to cap the abbreviated win.

Eicher went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk and three RBIs. Aiken finished 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

Oates was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a walk and two runs scored. Brooker went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Morrison finished 2-for3 with a double, a walk, one RBI and two runs scored. Rodrigues was 2-for-2 with a walk, one RBI and two runs scored.

Stephens put together a 1-for-3 game with a double, a RBI and a run scored. R.J. Cox went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Schroeder was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Yelverton drew a walk in the game.

The Tigers are set to host Chilton County Tuesday in their regular season finale. They will also honor their seven senior players before the game. Demopolis is slated to host Benjamin Russell in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs next Friday night with a double-header that begins at 4 p.m.
