Demopolis goes 2-1 in FCA tournament

Demopolis (6-3) won two of its three games in the FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial in Montgomery over the weekend.

Demopolis 13, Wetumpka 2

The Tigers opened play Friday night with a 13-2, five-inning victory over Wetumpka at Paterson Field. The affair saw Demopolis do the bulk of its damage in the second inning when it hung 11 runs on the board.

R.J. Cox struck out one and walked one while allowing two hits and two runs for the complete game win.

Twelve of the Tigers’ 13 hits in the contest were singles while Luke Yelverton recorded the only extra-base knock in a game that featured five Wetumpka errors.

Demetrious Davis set the table, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Hunter Colyar went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Jay Craig was 1-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Cox went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jacob Rodrigues scored a run while Jamarcus Ezell was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Jonathon Lewis was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Wesley Holemon scored a run. Yelverton was 1-for-1 with a double and two runs scored. Chandler Barton finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Demopolis 11, Trinity Presbyterian 1

The Tigers opened their Saturday twinbill at Riverwalk Stadium with an 11-1 win over Trinity Presbyterian in which they scored 10 runs over the game’s final three frames to net the five-inning victory.

Yelverton again notched the Tigers’ only extra-base hit of the game, going 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Davis scored a run while Colyar went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Tavion Broadwater and Craig each scored two runs.

Cox was 2-for3 with one RBI. Holemon scored two runs. Rodrigues went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a stolen base. Lewis went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs while Barton went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Colyar allowed one unearned run and struck out seven while scattering two hits and a walk in the complete game win.

Opp 6, Demopolis 3

The Tigers punctuated the weekend by surrendering three runs to Opp in the sixth inning of a 6-3 loss.

Demopolis committed four errors in the contest, leading to five unearned runs including all three of the scores in the sixth. Yelverton struck out six over five innings of work and scattered five hits and a walk while giving up just one unearned run.

Lewis was 1-for-4 out of the leadoff spot. Craig finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Cox drove in a run while Rodrigues was 2-for-4. Ezell went 1-for-3 and Barton finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Demopolis is scheduled to play at Thomasville Tuesday before traveling to American Christian Friday.
