Demopolis gets final regular season tuneup in weekend tourney

Demopolis (20-12) lost a pair of competitive games against Prattville during a tournament at Northside over the weekend, sandwiching those contests around a win over Sipsey Valley.

The Lady Tigers opened the bracket with a 6-2 loss to Class 7A Prattville that saw Abbey Latham go 2-for-2 with a homer and two runs driven in. Courtney Smith was 1-for-2 with one run scored while Natalie Tatum finished 1-for-1.

Demopolis bounced back with a 6-0 win over Sipsey Valley in a contest that included 10 Lady Tiger hits.

Smith was 1-for-2 while Latham went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Tatum was 2-for-3. Alex Abrams scored a run and stole a base. Elly Brown finished 1-for-2 with a run scored. Bria Brown went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Taylor Smith finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and one RBI. Kendall Hannah finished 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.

Natalie Tatum picked up the win, striking out four batters over five innings while scattering two hits.

Demopolis managed only two hits in the final game of the day, a 5-0 loss to Prattville. Holli Gandy went 1-for-1 while Courtney Smith was 1-for-3 for the only Lady Tiger hits of the day.

The Lady Tigers host the Class 5A, Area 6 tournament Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. when Dallas County meets Wilcox Central. The winner of that game faces Demopolis at 12:30 p.m.
